What the station holds
A Juiceboxx station is a tall kiosk that stores and charges portable power banks. It never holds your phone. When you rent, a charged power bank leaves the station with you, so you are free to walk back to your table, your lane, or your seat.
Every station also takes returns. When you are finished, the power bank goes back into any Juiceboxx station, where it recharges for the next guest.
Step one: open the app and find a station
Rentals run through the free Juiceboxx app on the App Store and Google Play. Open it and the map shows the stations near you. Install it before you need it, since a phone at 3% is a hard place to start a download.
The app guide walks through each screen if you want a preview.
Step two: scan the code and take a power bank
At the station, scan the QR code with the app and confirm the rental. A charged power bank unlocks and slides out. It has built-in cables, so you can plug your phone in right away.
From there, the phone and the power bank travel together. Keep them in the same pocket or bag so the cable is never pulled tight against your phone's charging port.
What it costs
A rental is $2 for every 30 minutes, and it never costs more than $12 in a 24-hour day. When the rental starts, a $20 hold is placed on your card. It is a hold, not a charge, and it is released when the power bank comes back.
You pay for the time you keep the power bank, not for how much charge your phone takes. A quick top-up at dinner and a long night out are billed the same way. The full list of answers is on the rental questions page.
Step three: return it to any station
You can return the power bank to any Juiceboxx station, not just the one you rented from. Slide it into an open slot and the app ends the rental.
The easiest habit is to return it at the last venue of the night, before you head home. Return it within 48 hours; after that, the $20 hold is charged. If your plans change, the return guide explains your options.
Where you can rent today
Juiceboxx stations are live in the Upstate at Paradise Lanes Bowling Alley in Spartanburg and Total Fitness Family Center in Piedmont, with new venues being added across South Carolina. Both sit inside their host venues, so check opening hours before you plan a return.
The station finder shows the nearest location and gives you directions, and the app always has the current list.
